Income Driven Repayment (IDR) Form

Income-driven repayment (IDR) plans are designed to make your student loan debt more manageable by reducing your monthly payment amount based on your income. You must be on an IDR repayment plan in order to qualify for PSLF and you must recertify your income yearly with the DOE. There are four types of repayment plans that are considered IDR plans and qualify as PSLF eligible repayment plans:

  • Revised Pay As You Earn Repayment Plan (REPAYE)

  • Pay As You Earn Repayment Plan (PAYE)

  • Income-Based Repayment Plan (IBR)

  • Income-Contingent Repayment Plan (ICR Plan)

Employment Certification Form (ECF)

This form certifies that your employer is PSLF qualified employer and allows borrowers to track their progress towards PSLF. To track progress towards public service loan forgiveness, borrowers should submit their employment certification form annually and/or when they change employers. With each submitted ECF, borrowers will receive an updated count of qualified payments towards PSLF while working full-time (30 hours or more) for a qualified employer under PSLF rules.

If you do not submit the Employment Certification Form annually, then at the time you apply for forgiveness, you will be required to submit an Employment Certification Form for each employer you worked for while making the required 120 qualifying monthly payments.

Once you’ve filled out the Employment Certification Form, you can send it, with your employer’s certification, to FedLoan Servicing. Your loans will transfer to FedLoan once you sibmit your ECF.

You may mail the form to this address:

Public Service Loan Forgiveness Form

Once you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments (that you could track by submitting your ECF yearly), you must submit a PSLF application. You must still be working for a qualifying employer when you apply and until your loan is forgiven.

If your PSLF application is approved, then you’ll be notified that the entire remaining balance of your eligible Direct Loans will be forgiven, including all outstanding interest and principal
